Sphagnum Angustifolium
Description: Sphagnum angustifolium, commonly known as narrow-leaved peat moss, is a small to medium-sized species of peat moss with a color ranging from green to yellowish. This moss forms dense mats in bogs and fens, thriving in wet and moderately nutrient-rich environments. It is distinguished by its triangular leaves and long, hanging branches.
Characteristics:
Form: Compact to loose, with pale green to pale brown stems.
Leaves: Triangular, small (less than 0.8 mm), with a pointed to blunt tip.
Branches: Two spreading and 2-3 hanging branches per fascicle.
Reproduction: Dioicous, producing spores in capsules during the summer.
Habitat: Found in bogs, fens, and wet areas with some mineral content in the water. It can tolerate light shade and sometimes grows at the edges of forests or among shrubs.
